Crucial to uphold peace and stability in South China Sea: Sultan

苏丹：维护南海和平稳定至关重要

His Majesty informed of the completion of Phase 1 of the Hengyi project as well as the commencement of Phase 2.

苏丹陛下通报了恒逸项目一期竣工以及二期项目开工的情况。

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during a Bilateral Meeting with Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China on Thursday stressed the importance of ensuring that South China Sea continue to remain peaceful and stable.

文莱达鲁萨兰国苏丹陛下和国家元首苏丹·哈吉·哈桑纳尔·博尔基亚·穆伊扎丁·瓦达乌拉，在本周四与中华人民共和国主席习近平的双边会晤中强调了确保南海持续保持和平和稳定的重要性。

The meeting was held at St. Regis, San Francisco, California, USA. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

该会晤在美国加利福尼亚州旧金山的圣瑞吉举行。阿卜杜勒·马丁王子陪同苏丹陛下出席。

His Majesty further stated that any tensions in the region are a matter of great concern and that whatever issues that arise should be addressed through peaceful dialogue and consultations based on international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea.

苏丹陛下进一步申明，地区间的任何紧张局势都令人关切，由此产生的任何问题都应根据国际法，包括1982年《联合国海洋法公约》，通过和平对话和协商方式解决。

His Majesty also looks forward to working closely with China in negotiating a Code of Conduct that will be meaningful to both sides and be an example to the international community of the collective intentions towards peace and security in the region.

Earlier during the Meeting, His Majesty stated that 2023 marks the 5th Anniversary of the Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China and looked forward to continuing the work together to further enhance the goodwill and friendship that has long existed between the two countries.

会议伊始，苏丹陛下表示，2023年是中文建立战略合作伙伴关系5周年，期待双方共同努力，进一步增进两国间业已长期存在的友好关系。

On bilateral relations, His Majesty was pleased with the progress of cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and fisheries, education and people-to-people exchanges. His Majesty also noted that cooperation has expanded big data and artificial intelligence.

就双边关系，苏丹陛下对两国在经贸投资、农业、渔业、教育和人文交流等领域取得的进展感到高兴。

His Majesty informed of the completion of Phase 1 of the Hengyi project as well as the commencement of Phase 2, whereby the agreement was signed on 8th November 2023. With China's approval, His Majesty expressed hope to have it completed by the end of the year.

苏丹陛下通报了恒逸项目一期竣工以及二期开工的情况，其中二期协议已于2023年11月8日签署。苏丹陛下表示希望在今年年底前得到中国的批准。

His Majesty expressed his appreciation for the scholarships and training offered by Hengyi which has helped the country build its technical capacity and human capital.

苏丹陛下对恒逸提供的奖学金和培训表示感谢，感谢其对文莱国内技术能力和人力资本建设提供的帮助。

In addition, His Majesty stated that Brunei Darussalam is interested to tap into China's expertise in the areas of renewable energy and green initiatives that will complement its national and regional efforts. Furthermore, Brunei is also keen to explore and expand the export of agriculture and fisheries products to China.

此外，苏丹陛下表示，文莱达鲁萨兰国有兴趣利用中国在可再生能源和绿色倡议领域的专业知识，这将对文莱国家和地区的努力起到补充作用。除此之外，文莱愿意开拓和扩大对中国的农业和渔业产品出口。

Touching on people to people ties, His Majesty is of the view that the resumption of travel between Brunei and China will further promote the respective tourism sectors.

The President of the People's Republic of China highlighted the long history of friendship between Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China. As this year marks the 5th anniversary of the Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries, he said that China stands ready to work with Brunei to continuously advance bilateral ties, and continue to promote high-quality cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative to bring more benefits to people in both countries.

中华人民共和国主席强调中文两国友谊渊远流长。今年是中文建立战略合作伙伴关系5周年，习主席说到，中方愿同文莱一道，不断推动双边关系发展，高质量共建“一带一路”，为两国人民带来更多福祉。

Discussions also included mutual matters of regional importance, such as the East Asia Cooperation in upholding ASEAN's architecture, Brunei as a hub for the BIMP-EAGA region, and appreciation for Brunei's support towards China's accession to the CPTPP.

In addition, both Leaders expressed concern about the continued violence in the Gaza Strip, and stood in solidarity in looking forward to the two-state solution.
